LA Fashion Seen: Where to Shop for Bargain Designer Clothes

Sample sales galore–amazing finds for the smart and savvy shopper.

You don’t have to pay full price for anything—if you know where to go. Sure, it may be convenient to buy a pair of designer denims at a mass market retail store or that boutique located right up your alley, but why spend $200 when you can get the same for $40?

Here are three of LA’s best kept secrets to take advantage of. You’ll save, get more bang for your buck and discover the places that fashion students and designers in LA are privy to.

The Runway Outlet

Located in Silver Lake, across from Gingergrass, this boutique outlet is the everyday sample sale store. At the end of 2009, what used to be The Circle became The Runway Outlet—same concept as an indie designer outlet studio, but new owner and new name. Discover local designers and modish apparel for a fraction of the original price.

California Market Center

It’s a gigantic showroom (13-story building) in the heart of LA’s fashion district where buyers from all over the place come to find new talent and things they want to sell at their own stores. The good news is that their showrooms are open to the public every last Fridays of the month for the ultimate sample sales featuring designer collections for men, women and children. Not all 300 showrooms participate, so look for the “Samples for Sale” signs. Wear comfy shoes, and cash is the preferred method of payment. CaliforniaMarketCenter.com, 110 E. Ninth St, LA CA 90079

The Warehouse Sale

This is the place for jean lovers. Find designer jeans including True Religion, Citizens of Humanity and BCBG all below wholesale prices, up to 80% off. The Warehouse Sale stops by fashion cities all around the nation to hold these sample sales. The next LA event will be on March 20 and 21 from 10am to 4pm at Smash Box Studios Stage #1, 1011 N. Fuller Ave., West Hollywood 90046. RSVP at their website for free admission. Otherwise, it’s $5 at the door. Find new and hot styles of the season for both men and women. TheWarehouseSale.com.
